  • Happy Birthday to Me!

    I turned 25 today. I have done nothing exciting today, and will probably be working late tonight to make up for a day of slacking off. Yippee!

    Last night, my dad, step-mom (Sheila), sister, and step-sister came over with cake and ice cream. Tomorrow, I am meeting my mom and another sister for breakfast at a local diner. Saturday, I'm getting my hair chopped off, and Sunday I am going out for breakfast with Dad and Sheila. And then we're meeting my sister to go to the park. I wrote a long "taking stock of my life" sort of blog over at Writer Mom at Home, if you'd like to check it out.

    Ironically, the first person to wish me a happy birthday this morning was a very nice woman over at the IRS. I made a dumb mistake on the direct deposit portion of our taxes, so I've been on the phone a lot recently. H&R block sucks. I did our taxes through turbo tax, but had the funds deposited onto our Emerald Card. After I stopped working, we didn't use my checking account anymore, so I closed it out. I get all of my pay deposited onto the card, and it works great. No problems with it. Except that when I went to do the taxes, I couldn't find my account number. Anywhere. Not even on last year's tax forms. So I assumed (wrongfully) that the card number must be it, because it was the number I was using for everything else. Hahaha. Yeah. Took us almost a week to figure this out. Luckily, there is no real account with that number, so it was sent back to the IRS. Who, once they get it through their system, will be sending us a check. Assuming nothing else goes wrong.

    Needless to say, Mark was not pleased with me. In my defense, however, I am definitely not the only person who made this mistake. I found a lot of people who did the same thing. And it took him 3 calls to H&R Block to get our account number, so it's not like they're making it easy.

    So, I went out yesterday and got a real checking account. And savings account. So now, when we get the check, I'll be able to deposit it. And eventually, hopefully, we will get the new furniture we've been planning on. I still have to call up the state, and get it taken care of there. Ugh. At least this won't be an issue next year.

    Mark and I won't be doing anything for my birthday until we get money back, but then we are going out to the Olive Garden. I've never been, so it's going to be a very special treat. I'll also be getting some spending money, which will probably be going towards clothes.

    Assuming we ever get the money. I'm not trying to plan too much until we actually have it in the bank account. I'm still half convinced that it's going to get lost somewhere or something. That's just the sort of luck we've been having with all of this. There has been a lot of knocking on wood around here, and we are afraid to even talk about what we want to get. Call us superstitious, but we aren't taking any chances....

    You and Shakespeare too!  Good day to celebrate.  We got our tax money yesterday but they told us it would be a couple of weeks from now, so that was good.

    @livingfreeinnc@xanga - @IamKelleyK@xanga - Thank you!

    @Wildflowersp@xanga - Lol.. I'd almost forgotten about that. I had an English teacher in HS that used to make a huge deal about the shared birthday. He was convinced that it meant I was going to become a famous author. Maybe someday.. Shirley Temple and Catherine the Great also were born on April 23rd.

    Happy Birthday!

    I think tax mishaps are a theme this year. Im hoping we get our money sometime within the next month.  And hoping even more they dont send it back saying 'you didnt fill out this godforsaken form correctly'.  I hope they can process your check quickly!  (And just to warn you, if the IRS check has your name and Mark's name on it, make sure both of your names are on the bank account you deposit it into.  You dont need anymore nightmares with this money!)

    Happy Birthday! I am just waiting on my amended state return, which with the state of CA might be ten years in coming. Hope yours gets here soon.
